    Megan's Study Tips

Make Flash Cards your Friend: For me, flash cards are the easiest way to study foreign languages, math formulas, vocabulary, and countries and capitals. Flash cards are simple to make and easy to carry around. Not only that, you can also study by yourself with flash cards or you can have friend or family member to help you.

Read the assigned reading: If your teacher assigns something to read in your textbook, then read it. There is a good chance that your teacher wants you to read the textbook for a reason. You never know when a teacher is going to have a pop quiz, or your teacher many not cover something in class that was in the textbook but still hold you responsible for that information on a test. While you are reading it is a good idea to take notes on key points, anything you have questions on or anything you feel is important information.

Take Notes: Unless, you have a perfect memory, you aren’t going to remember everything that is said in class. While you teacher is lecturing on a subject take notes anything you feel is important, and take notes on anything the teacher mentions more than once or anything said with emphasis. If you teacher gives a study guide at the beginning of each chapter/unit make sure you look over it before class, so where you’ll know what to take notes on during class.

Do Study guides/handouts: When your teachers make study guides or handouts they want you to do them. If you don’t do them, you’re just wasting paper and your teacher’s time. Many times, the information on the study guides or handouts will be on the next test, and it is better to study them than study on your own and end up studying the wrong information.

Don’t Procrastinate: This is one thing I struggle with when comes to studying. It is never good to put off doing projects, papers, or studying to the last minute; when you procrastinate, you are not going to put forth your best work, due to the fact you are in a hurry. Also, pulling “all nighters” is not good either. When you study all night you are affecting your health and your grades. The lack of sleep will make you tired and weak, and you won’t remember as much as would have if you had started studying earlier.
